ACE Training Centre in Kidlington has received a substantial donation of 10,000 bricks from Persimmon Homes Wessex, reinforcing the housebuilder’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of construction professionals.
The delivery was celebrated at ACE’s training centre, where apprentices were joined by local MP Calum Miller and Cllr Sean Gaul, Oxfordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Children & Young People.
The 10,000 bricks (enough to build a three-bedroom house) will provide ACE Training students with vital resources to enhance their practical learning and bricklaying skills. This significant contribution reflects Persimmon’s ongoing investment in community and education, alongside their major developments at Valley Park in Didcot and Wellington Gate in Wantage.
ACE Training Centre is an award-winning, non-profit training centre delivering traditional construction courses through apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships in a practical, supportive, and community-focused environment. Each year, ACE welcomes a new intake of enthusiastic school leavers ready to begin their construction careers, with over 100 apprentices currently training across a range of disciplines and progressing into roles on projects across Oxfordshire.
Over the last five years, Persimmon’s activities in the South West have resulted in the construction of over 2,500 new homes, supporting over 12,000 jobs and contributing around £14m in benefits to local communities through council tax receipts, section 106 agreements, and community infrastructure levies. Once complete, Persimmon’s consortium-led site at Valley Park will see over 4,000 new homes delivered, alongside new amenities including two primary schools, an SEN school, local centres, and sports facilities – all within easy reach of shops, schools, restaurants, and services in Didcot.
At Wellington Gate, situated on the former airfield between Wantage and Grove, 2,500 homes are being built for local people. The site will also deliver two primary schools, a secondary school, a community hub, sports facilities, play pitches, play areas, an ecological park, a community park, allotments, and orchards.
